The revised Sheridan Gardiner Test - similar to the HOTV Test - employs Snellen optotypes and can measure near and distance vision with a flip chart that is held by the examiner.
A clear plexiglass card held by the patient, with Snellen letters corresponding to those in the flip chart, allows the examiner to ascertain correctness of the response. Testing depends on matching shapes rather than identifying or naming letters.
